Perplexity Free is enough for quick cited orientation and basic web answers. Perplexity Pro is worth evaluating when your workflow depends on extended Pro Search, advanced AI models, higher upload and attachment limits, image or video generation, support, and bigger project file capacity.

Perplexity's help center lists Standard Free with practically unlimited basic searches, very limited Pro Searches, basic limited uploads, and no access to advanced AI models, image generation, or premium support. That makes Free a good first stop, but not a replacement for heavier research workflows.

Perplexity's pricing surface lists Pro at $20/month or $200/year, with annual billing surfaced as $17/month. The same pricing page describes Pro as personal, non-commercial use with fast answers powered by the latest AI models, model selection across GPT, Claude, Gemini, and more, deeper sourcing, and usage limits suited for most users.

Do not mix Perplexity Pro with Perplexity API pricing. The Search API returns structured ranked web results from a continuously refreshed index, while Sonar or Agent API is the route for LLM-generated summaries. Subscription and API decisions should be budgeted separately.
